Habitat:
The origin of peppermint is unknown, but it is thought to be native to Europe and the Middle East. It is cultivated in Europe, Asia, and North America.

Peppermint leaf is especially effective for addressing inflammation and spasms in the digestive system, making it beneficial for conditions like IBS and a spastic colon. It helps alleviate flatulence, colic, bloating, and nausea. Its energetics can be confusing, as it initially feels warming but then has a cooling impact. Peppermint can also be used topically to relieve pain, itchy skin, and bug bites. Internally, it is helpful for colds when combined with other herbs like yarrow and elderflower. Additionally, inhaling peppermint steam can relieve sinus congestion.
Contraindications:
Not used in pregnancy, gallstones, and hiatal hernias due to the emmenagogue effect and relaxing effect on the esophageal sphincter.
